One of the most frequently asked questions at Tuneage is “Where do you guys and gals find all this sweet music?” Well, one place is a website called thesixtyone.com. As a member you are able to “bump” the songs you like (“bumping” is thesixyone’s way of saying “I like this”). You earn points based on the number of people who bump the song after you. The more points you get, the more songs you can bump. Simple, right? Right.
The thing that sets this site apart from most is the vast number of artists who are able to participate. Basically, any artist with a computer and an mp3 recording of themselves is able to get their music out to the world. While this can lend itself to a lot of, for lack of a better term, garbage, it also allows you to listen to bands that you might have otherwise not heard.
My reason for joining was because it was the only place I could find a streaming mp3 of ”West Coast” by Coconut Records before the album was released. From those humble beginnings I have found several artists that I am now proud to have the site as part of my collection. If you enjoy the thrill of the hunt and discovering things that you’ve never heard before then give thesixtyone a look. If you dont enjoy those things then just stick to Tuneage!
So, go forth and start bumping!
LOVE IT!!!!, I just made an account, is a great way to find music :)
