I recently, and I mean 3 days ago, started translating MojoPortal to Spanish-Spain. MojoPortal is a .Net written CMS that, as far as I know, is the only one that can be ran on Linux using Mono.
Until now I never gave too much credit to those kind people that translated open source applications to the languages that are not spoken by the developers. And let me tell you, it IS HARD.
So far I believe I have translated all those strings that can be read by the users and administrators during the everyday usage of the software. The translation I’ve done so far involves around 14000 variables with very technical words. The main problem I’ve been having is that, because I took my degree in the UK, I have always used English words in IT and I’m having problems translating very simple things such as profile, home, etc…
The problems are not because we do not have a word for home in Spanish but that the use is completely inappropriate and has to be translated as start.
Overall, I have to say, if you get something translate, send an e-mail to the person who did the HARD work, he deserves it.
