I try to use my Windows partition just for development for Windows applications (which I have been doing quite a lot) but today I have decided to take a day off and do some geeky stuff.
A couple of days ago I decided to by Spore and I used the EA on-line store. My Idea was to install the game on my OpenSuse installation where I have Cedega installed. I tried a couple of times to install the EA Downloader manager in my Linux partition, but there was no way… and I was not the only one:
I managed to get the game working on Cedega doing the following:
Download the game using the ea downloader on Windows. You can tell the downloader where to store the cached data, that is the data we need to install the game.
- Copy the data in to you Linux partition, beware that the folder is more or less 3.5 gb.
Locate the Spore installer, you cache folder should be like this
drwxr-xr-x 5 mandel users 4096 2008-09-26 15:27 . drwxr-xr-x 3 mandel users 4096 2008-09-26 14:07 .. drwxr-xr-x 4 mandel users 4096 2008-09-27 23:54 { 2268736493 } drwxr-xr-x 2 mandel users 4096 2008-09-28 00:54 { Anonymous } drwxr-xr-x 2 mandel users 4096 2008-09-26 15:27 logs -rw-r--r-- 1 mandel users 3682 2008-10-12 10:58 Prefs.eadThe installer is in the spore_dd folder within the dir with {} braces:
drwxr-xr-x 4 mandel users 4096 2008-09-27 23:54 . drwxr-xr-x 5 mandel users 4096 2008-09-26 15:27 .. drwxr-xr-x 5 mandel users 4096 2008-09-27 23:54 spore_dd drwxr-xr-x 6 mandel users 4096 2008-09-27 12:46 spore_scc_main
- Start the normal installation process with Cedega.
You might get some errors when starting the game, I have ignore them and everything seems to go fine :)
In case you want to know my system is:
OpenSuse 11.0 64
Cedega Engine 6.1.0; GUI 000133
