Moving to Brussels!!!

Bea and I are leaving Manchester. The decision was mainly originated due to the financial crisis. I got a number of job offers at the beginning of the year which I rejected, but at the end I had to surrender to the fact that I needed a proper job.

From the 1st November and on I will be working for GDF/Suez in their Electrabel HQ in Brussels. For any one who does not know what Electrabel does (like me a moth ago) here is what they say in their page:

Electrabel is a leading European energy company and number one on the Benelux market. It is part of GDF SUEZ, an international industrial and services group, which designs sustainable and innovative solutions in the management of public utilities as a partner of public authorities, businesses and individuals in electricity, natural gas, energy services, water and waste management

Let me translate this to non-marketing people (like me, I had problems understanding what they do), they are an energy company. I quite happy to say that they are a very green company and most (over 50% of it) of the energy they produce is virtually CO2 free (as mush as it can be, gas has to be transported).

This means that in the following days(less than 10 days) I have to sort out my move to the continent, close any accounts I have in the U.K. make sure that I won’t be paying any British taxes that I shouldn’t pay (council tax etc..) and find a house. Thanks god the guys at Electrabel are quite nice and they have offered me a temporary house for the very first month and a half, which should give me enough time to find my own house and settle down properly.

Overall is going to be an incredible experience, I am going to know one more country and will probably will have to learn French and Dutch… I suppose that most of you though that I spoke French because I am moving to Brussels, but that is not the case. At my work place the main language that will be used is English and Belgians are really good English speakers, at least when they are compared with Italians, French and Spaniards… but that does not mean that I’ll be able to live there for at least a number of years without learning how to order a pint or a croissant in French. I’ll be updating my tumblr with all the new experiences I’ll be having and probably the number of migraines I’ll get (they usually appear during stressing periods of my life like xmas, new houses etc…)
