Last night I spent far more time than I wanted setting up Windows Vista Ultimate, seriously I do not know what the Updates are, but I’m sure they should not take that long….Anyway I managed to install openSolaris using a CD I pick up at FOSDEM, unfortunately the instillation did not go as smooth as I wanted:
- openSolariscould not format the partition I made for it… I really do not know the reason, but as soon as I reduced the size of the partition fdisk worked…. kinda weird.
- The boot-loader (GRUB) was not correctly created which meant that for some minutes (‘til I installed Linux) I could not use any OS…
I actually solved my problems installing openSuse after I installed openSolaris(can anyone see a rend in the names :P ), but because I installed openSolarison ZFS Suse did not added to the group, but that is a minor problem. During the installation I actually learned a new thing: do not have more than 4 primary partitions in HD it makes bad thing happened… Thankfully I have and other HD and openSuse offered to use the second HD to make things work fine.
Now I’m just half way though the overall installation (yes it usually takes me several days to get everything done, but that is because I have to go to the office ;( ). My next step is to get the dammed wireless card working on Linux and Solaris. I think I can get it working on Linux easily but I’m unsure about openSolaris … We will see :D
PS: I have decided to link as much as possible from now on… this is the web, isn’t it?
PS 2 I’ll link to everything except for Microsoft products
