marco: Instapaper’s browser usage for February 2009. I decided to stop bending over backwards to support Internet Explorer, instead just doing the bare minimum and displaying a warning, on March 1. I’ve been frontpaged on Hacker News and received a bunch of comments there (many in disagreement), so here’s some more information that may help clarify why it’s not worth restricting the CSS I use and spending hours to debug IE problems for 3.63% of the site’s visitors. Since I started working at the web-front of the company (Electrabel) I fin these things rather entertaining… specially when you go to the page Marco linked to and you read the comments… How many of that people actually read the post??? Most of them just say their opinion and blame Marco because they did not read his post and did not know either his reason, demographics or resources…. the Internet is full of annoying trolls…The real problem with the Internet is based on the 50% amount of people that thing they can program because they know HTML and the other 50% that want you to use every technology that exists out there (and I know about that, you will never know how Electrabels page works :P)

The above video is worth watching but before that I have to explain the situation:

On one side we know that on 23/02/2009 ETA placed a bomb in Lazkao (Guipuzcua, Spain) that although not killing anyone it destroyed several houses. One of the houses was own by the man in the video who recently renovated the house. Not only the house was recently renovated, but but he did most of the work with some help of his father.

On the other hand we know that an “herriko taberna” is a bar or pub where extremist left wing members that support ETA gather around (that is the best definition I can think of being politically correct.)

Now lets talk about the video. In the video we can see the owner of on the destroyed house than in an anger attack took a maze and destroyed everything he could find in the “herriko taberna” while screaming “Vosotros me habéis jodido la casa y ahora yo voy a hacer lo mismo con la vuestra” which can be translated to “You have fuck up my house, now I am going to do the same with yours”

My point of view towards his reaction can only be described using a Spanish expression: “Con un par de cojones”. Unfortunately he was arrested and Spanish newspapers say he has confirmed that he will be moving out of the basque country in the following days…

After some time working in the theme and wanting to change the last one (I really did not like it) I present you with the new looks of the page. So far I have adapted it to work on Tumblr, the next step will be the wordpress and wikis of the projects. I really like this one and I believe I wont change it in a while…. or at least that is what I hope :P

UNIONS asking companies just to use Britons

I am Spanish, I used to life and work in the U.K. and I’m by watching this I’m realizing that I made the right move when I left the U.K.

Lost of people say that Spaniards are racist, that some make monkey noises when a black player get in the field etc… I’ve got to say this is as racist as you can get, making a company take a Briton before any other person when asking for a job is pure racism and there is no other name for that. I hope the unions realize about it….
